COURSE DESCRIPTION

PEPP represents a complete source of pre-hospital medical information for the emergency care of infants and children. Developed and certified by the American Academy of Pediatrics, PEPP is an exciting curriculum designed to teach pre-hospital professionals how to assess and manage ill or injured children.

PEPP is a comprehensive, innovative, and highly visual course featuring case-based lectures, live-action video, hands-on skills stations, and small group simulations.

The one-day Basic Life Support (BLS) course is geared toward the Volunteer Ambulance Officer and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and the two-day Advanced Life Support (ALS) course is geared toward the Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) and Paramedic. Any health professional who is responsible for the emergency care of children may find this course beneficial.

To successfully complete the PEPP Course, students must:

  • Participate in the complete course;
  • Complete the pretest;
  • Pass the final examination.

Students who successfully complete a course are eligible to receive a PEPP Course Completion Certificate. The Course Completion Certificate is valid for 2 years. Students who are unsuccessful in the exam receive an attendance certificate from Edoceo Group.

The PEPP programme has been accredited by the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine as an approved activity under the 2020-2022 Professional Development Framework.

What is PEPP?

What is the history of the PEPP Course?

The PEPP Course represents over a decade of collaboration between physicians, nurses, and pre-hospital professionals. PEPP began in 1990 as a part of a State of California initiative, and has since expanded both domestically and internationally. In 1995 the first PEPP course was conducted, and in 1998 the AAP reorganised and expanded the course. Edoceo Group educators have been teaching PEPP since 2004.

 

What is the recommended PEPP instructor-to-participant ratio?

The Pediatric Education for Pre-hospital Professionals (PEPP) program ratios are:

  • Skill stations require a Faculty-to-student ratio of 1:6.
  • Case-based scenarios require a Faculty-to-student ratio of 1:10.

 

How does a Provider receive a Course Completion Certificate?

To successfully complete a PEPP Course, providers must:

  1. Participate in the complete PEPP course taught by a PEPP Course Coordinator
  2. Complete the precourse work
  3. Pass the final examination

Students who successfully meet these requirements are eligible to receive a PEPP Course Completion Certificate. The Course Completion Certificate is electronically sent to the student and is valid for 2 years.

With over 20 years in emergency care, Susie works both as a registered nurse and registered paramedic, currently employed as a Clinical Nurse in a busy emergency department in Perth, working privately as a paramedic, clinical educator and managing Edoceo Group.
Gary Wilson
With over 20 years pre-hospital care experience, Gary is a registered paramedic currently working in the Perth metropolitan area. A clinical educator with a Masters in Health Professional Education, he is also an experienced journalist, photographer and magazine editor.
